Google AppEngine Preview Launched

Yesterday Google launched a limited-release preview of their Web Services stack call Google AppEngine. Below are videos from their first ‘Campfire’ demostration of the product. Sounded like it was a cold night in Mountain View…

Brokeback Jaiku

jaikuApparent Google Adsense thinks my Jaiku page is pretty gay. And by gay I mean blogging about horse breeding.

Digg.com no longer serving ads from Federated Media?

Digg.com has been using John Battelle’s Federated Media for their ad serving ever since the initial investment by Omidyar Network. Being funded by the same guy and all. But recently it looks like Digg has ditched FM in favor of their ex-ad server Google Adsense. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this? Is there any story behind the switch? It seems that Federated Media would be able to fetch a higher CPM rate by selling ads using their sales people than the ‘we’ll make it up in volume’, notoriously under paid system Google offers. I suspect that Digg might be in talks with Google about an acquisition deal. That would explain why Digg is favoring adsense exclusively to show Google why they are worth the $150M price tag they are asking. It’s just my speculation and contribution to the Google rumor mill. Thank you very much.

Google TV – Secret Beta or Hoax?

Mark Erickson is a video blogger on Youtube who hosts his own technology show called Infinite Solutions. The vlog purports that it has found its way into a super secret Google TV beta program by way or an obscure easter egg technique. Many around the Web are refusing to believe the validity of his findings and have deemed this a well produced hoax. Maybe they are just overly cautious because it looks to me like it might just be the real deal. Just watch the mullet Mark sports in the clip as well as the 1980ish production style makes it hard to believe that he has the ability to pull off something as elaborate as some have claimed.

It is not unfathomable that Google with its acquisition of Youtube and its recent video search updates that it would solidify its position in online video by launching a Joost competitor into the marketplace. With its media partnerships in Youtube and its seemingly endless supply of cash, it is certainly able to pull this off. On the other hand, Google is certainly not immune to failure in the online video market when it comes launching its own services.

Google quitely removes ‘Tips’ from search results

Looks like the pressure from the Firefox wiz kid was too much for Google to handle as they quietly remove the ‘tips’ section from their search results.

google tips gone

Ever since the Blake Ross blog post criticized the search engine for favoring its own products, Goooooogle have been getting it from everyone. Good to see that even the biggest of giants can at least be temporarily shaken up by just one blog entry from the right person.
