If you can or have compare the video to a camera without AVCHD compression. Is all AVCHD the same. I have heard complaints about jumpy video , and personally speaking, I returned my sr1 from Sony even though, I got a great deal. The focus was a tad off or the compression made focus a tad off, can't tell. Is this panasonic better. I would most like to know how the color compares to sony or canon. thanks

AVCHD compatible editing software is now appearing everywhere. But it is a shame if everyone uses it mainly to convert the AVCHD files to HD MPEG2. This uses so much space that the only playback alternatives are a PC with a big hard drive, tape, or the pricey high capacity Blu Ray disks.

Evidently, the Playstation 3 and Sony's latest notebook PC can play MTS files in AVCHD format straight from a conventional DVD disk. But not everyone wants a PS3 or will buy one particular notebook PC series.

Panasonic has just introduced a DMP-BD10A consumer Blu Ray player that is supposed to support AVCHD. Better yet, the price will be below $600. Trouble is, I've seen no reviews by AVCHD videocam owners who test it against the battery of tasks they might need.

Are any AVCHD-friendly Blu Ray players sold in Europe or Asia? Do they require one to burn DVDs with fancy autoplay and menu support? Or can one use the "remote" to hunt MTS files and play them smoothly with multi-channel sound?

If AVCHD compatible playback devices become widespread, the format could soar in popularity. Otherwise, it will remain a niche format for masochist eccentrics willing to take the trouble to recode it into something else.
